Glaucoma, Cataract and Genetic Ophthalmology

Dr Jonathan Ruddle is an ophthalmologist (eye surgeon) with advanced training in all aspects of glaucoma and cataract management. He enjoys caring for patients of all ages to combat these diseases. He graduated from medicine at Melbourne University in 1998 and undertook Ophthalmology training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. After being awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists in 2007 he undertook further advanced training in complex glaucoma and cataract surgery both in Melbourne and overseas at Moorfields Eye Hospital London. Almost uniquely amongst eye surgeons he has a specialist understanding of the hereditary nature of glaucoma and familial cataract.

Dr Ruddle has appointments at the Glaucoma and Genetics clinics of the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital at the Royal Children’s Hospital. His surgical expertise covers complex cataract and glaucoma surgery of all ages. In addition, he has vast experience in the medical treatment and laser care of glaucoma.

He has been invited to speak at national and international meetings in the management of challenging glaucoma.

Dr Ruddle has had the privilege since 2007 to be part of a team bringing much needed cataract surgery to the island of Sumba West Timor (http://www.sumbaeyeprogram.org). The focus of the last few years has been training Indonesian surgeons and local eyecare nurses.

When not at work, Dr Ruddle enjoys spending with his family and friends, cycling and visiting places of natural beauty.
